London Bandits Power Hockey Development Program

The Bandits Power Hockey Development Program is designed to give house league and MD coaches and players an opportunity to improve their skills together. This program features a back-to-basics format that includes power skating combined with basic hockey skills development, focusing on stick handling, passing and shooting.  This includes all the little details that your hockey coaches simply do not have time for during their regular practice each week.  Our program will be headed up by Paul and Nicole and here is a little introduction for you;

Paul McLean has been coaching all forms of skating for over 10 years. He coaches recreational and competitive players and skaters of all ages. Paul is a strong advocate for basics and believes that with a strong base of technique you can build a strong athlete.

Nicole figure skated until the age of 14 and began playing hockey at the age of 12.  In high school she played hockey with Blue Water Hawks and as well as for their senior team in 2010. She returned to figure skating at the age of 24 and skated on the Adult synchro team for the London Skating Club.  Nicole believes good skating skills are crucial to playing hockey and it’s important to have a good foundation at a young age.

Our program will run for 10 weeks per session and there are two sessions running out of Argyle. The Fall/Winter session begins in October and runs up until Christmas, and the Winter/Spring session runs after New Year’s to the end of your hockey season.  The IP/Novice house league teams and their MD affiliates will be on the ice for the first hour (6-7 pm Wednesdays) and the Atom/Pee Wee house league teams and their MD affiliates will be on the ice for the second hour (7-8 pm Wednesdays).  There is a maximum of 30 players for each hour so please register for the development program when you register to play hockey with the Bandits organization this season.  The cost to register for the development program is estimated at $120/player for 10 weeks of power skating and basic skills development, but this will be updated along with specific dates for the program in September.  This is your Bandits development program specifically designed specifically for you!

This program is designed to develop new/young coaches as well therefore the Bandits organization is reaching out to coaches of the IP/Novice age groups and to Bantam/Midget HL hockey players within the organization who are interested in running the drills for our program.  For high school aged Bandits this will count towards your volunteer hours so please come out and enjoy becoming a coach and mentor for our young Bandit players this season.  A basic drills playbook will be provided for you but you are strongly encouraged to provide drills of your own that meet our back-to-basics format.

If you want to reach out to the Coach/Player Development Convenor prior to the beginning of the hockey season to help plan our practices then please do so, my name is Ian Colquhoun and you can reach me anytime at [email protected].
