Clinton Optimist Tournament Champions
Congratulations to the boys on a hard fought, and well deserved tournament victory. In a short tournament where you had to win each game to proceed to the championship, the team played a very disciplined and unselfish tournament which enabled us to take the victory.

Our first game was against the host team, and we came out strong with several good scoring opportunities in the early part of the game. Although we controlled most of the play, we were unable to beat the opposing goalie until late in the first. We added to our lead late in the second, and again early in the third. After Clinton got on the board, we were able to close out the victory with an insurance goal late in the third.

Our second game was the most evenly contested as we faced Arran-Elderslie. After a very tightly checked first period, we were able to open the scoring early in the second. Twice, we went up by a goal, and twice they came back to tie the game. We eventually earned the victory in the final minute of the game where we scored a short handed goal.

Game 3 was the championship where we faced Mt Forest who was also undefeated coming into the game. We came out strong once again, scoring in the opening minute, and again 3 minutes later. We played an excellent defensive game, limiting Mt Forest to a handful of poor scoring chances. We added 1 goal in each of the second and third to seal the game, and the tournament.

Every single player was asked to take on multiple different roles, which they all did effectively. Although it was a total team effort, I want to congratulate our goalie, Noah on his first shut out of the season, and being named the most valuable goalie in the tournament.

WELL DONE GUYS!!! IMG_2208.JPG
