We have been working closely with our member organizations to help minor hockey
return safely this fall.
We are now able to release further information surrounding updated registration
fees and structure for the first half of the 2020/21 season; our ‘Phase 1’.
Once the fully approved GLHA Return to Play (RTP) framework is released it will
also be posted. All of our posts will be dated and contain information
known at that point.
'Phase 1' will be skill development with team scrimmages (ex. 3v3 & 4v4) within member associations commencing early October 10 until December 19. The goal of ‘Phase 1’ is to get the kids back on the ice, having fun and being active while taking steps to limit any potential exposure to COVID-19. Associations will utilize their extensive in-house experience to deliver the best program possible during this situation. We will have added health and safety systems, protocols and process as required, additional information will be forthcoming.
The GLHA plans to provide further direction later this fall as to what the structure and fees of the ‘Phase 2’ season will look like. We have modified our registration fee structure to reflect ‘Phase 1’. For those players that have already registered and made payments based upon the original pricing structure, you will receive communication on what your next steps are. For players who utilized payment plans, the remaining amounts owing will be adjusted.
There will be a second registration period with additional fees for ‘Phase 2’ that will run from January 2 into spring. We are hopeful of the possibility of a staged expansion to 5v5 hockey games in Phase 2 as public health guidelines permit.
The current maximum is 25 people on an ice surface at a time. Teams at all levels and ages will consist of up to 20 players. Up to five (5) Team Officials can be rostered to each team. Teams will be grouped based on last season and be modified as required prior to starting Phase 1.
Game play at U9 (Novice) & below is required to be played using a modified (half-ice and/or cross-ice) ice format as per Hockey Canada’s existing Pathway’s.
U10 (Minor Atom) and above divisions will be played using full-ice.
Our IP programming for 4yr to 7yr old players will be restricted to smaller group sizes than in the past to better allow for physical distancing on the ice.
All game play must be conducted in conjunction with our MLHU and City facility protocol and guidelines. To book ice time at a City of London facility this season all hockey groups must follow the OHF’s current framework.
Currently 50 people are allowed per rink ‘pad’ in a facility. Families should be prepared to minimize the number of parents/guardians/spectators that attend in order to limit the number of people in arena/facility per the City of London/MLHU current guidelines. Currently no spectators are permitted but help is allowed prior and after.
Once the ice situation throughout the City clarifies teams can purchase extra ‘team paid’ ice as in the past but there are conditions and considerations. There may also be additional opportunities throughout our ‘Phase1’ for incremental ice time for all skill levels. Full details are still TBD but will be shared when finalized.
To limit potential exposure; the OHF Return to Hockey Framework stipulates that players may only participate with one (1) team in one (1) league for the 2020-21 season. Accordingly, we are not permitted to offer Select hockey this season.
Players who also play in an unsanctioned league or tournament this season will contravene Hockey Canada and OHF guidelines per the OHF Policy on unsanctioned programming. This policy stipulates that any participant who participates in an unsanctioned league or tournament after September 30 is not eligible to participate in sanctioned hockey (London Bandits /GLHA, ALLIANCE Hockey, etc.) for the balance of the season.
As this is a very fluid situation, the below is subject to change or modifications. Our season structure is based on feedback and guidance from the Ontario Hockey Federation, Alliance Hockey, the City of London and the Middlesex-London Health Unit.

A team is based on 18 skaters and 2 goalies for House League and MD. Mustang teams will consist of 15 skaters and 2 Goalies.
COMPETITIVE MD & MUSTANG TRYOUTS
Due to the restrictions currently on our region we plan on not offering tryouts for either MD or Mustangs for our ‘Phase 1’. However, if AAA/AA are successful in holding tryouts prior to our Phase 1 this will change. If we don’t hold tryouts the tryout fees will be reimbursed. There could be a ‘Phase 2’ tryout fee that will be established at that point and Parents will be notified of registration opening for this.
ADMINISTRATION FEE
Registration will remain open until October 10, 2020. After registration closes and before October 24th 2020, a standard administration fee will be charged.
If the situation changes for the worse and we are no longer able to return to hockey then refunds will be issued. If players don't step on the ice (season never starts) – families will receive full refunds.
Once the season starts; if we are impacted by a second wave and are forced to shut down hockey, a pro-rated refund based on ice time and insurance used will be calculated.
There are no early bird discounts available for the Development Phase. If you previously had an early bird discount, your refund amount will reflect the difference between the cost of the Development Phase and the amount you previously paid.
