West London Tournament Champs!
For the 4th time in four tournaments on the season, the Peewee Bandits reached the tournament finals, bringing home the championship for the 3rd time this season. The boys started strong by finishing up the round robin with a 3-0-1 record, grabbing the top seed, while potting 20 goals and giving up 9 in four games.
This strong round robin set up a semi final game with the Waterloo Wolves, after a back and forth game, the Bandits were able to seal the deal with a late goal and walk away with a 4-2 victory. This win set up a championship date with the North London Nationals who has battled the Bandits well all year and were fresh off a 2-1 OT come back in their own semi final.
After an early goal by North, the championship game was fairly quiet until the Bandits popped a power play goal to start the 3rd period. Due to strong goaltending at both ends of the ice, the rest of the 3rd frame stayed at a 1-1 tie to force overtime in the final game. Overtime, which was 5 minutes of 3 on 3 hockey, was back and forth for three shifts. On the 4th shift of OT, the Bandits were robbed of a golden scoring chance, then, when the puck seemed to be heading the other way, the Bandits forced a turn over at the blue line and had another great opportunity, this time Liam Sillers found the back of the net on a great feed from Jayden Amaral.
The Bandits had another successful weekend of hockey, hats off to North who played a fantastic final, we will see a lot more of them moving forward!
Great weekend of hockey from all players on the Bandits team! Honourable mention goes out to Aidan Doyle and Johnny Gagne who had terrific offensive performances over the six games this weekend.
