Tonight's the night!
This evening is when we embark upon our 2016-17 hockey season and before we start tryouts I wanted to get a bit of information out to you the Minor Atom MD Bandits family.
In addition to the welcome article, here is some other valuable information to aid you and your child with tryouts this year.
Arrival at the rink.
- Please make sure you sign in at the registration table, a jersey will be provided to you (goalies too!) that you are to return at the end of each time on the ice.
- Make sure that you are at the rink with enough time that your child is ready to go 10 minutes before we are on the ice. We will be having player-coach chats before each time on the ice to so the kids are ready to go as soon as we can get on.
Evaluations
We will be evaluating the players on these key area's.
1. Skating - forwards, backwards, transitions and overall ability
2. Puck handling - control, shooting and passing
3. Hockey ability - positional play, play making, anticipation, aggressiveness and compete level
4. Character - Team play, attitude, and ability to take instruction
5. Goalies will be evaluated on the applicable parts above as well as puck control, reflexes, anticipation, and positional play.
During tryouts all players may be asked to play different positions than they have show as their preference due to an uneven split between forwards and defense. It is up to the coaches and evaluators to ice the best team possible while developing the player and individual.
