Tryouts
With summer wrapping up hockey season is upon us. I hope everyone is excited for the upcoming season. My name is Jason Young and I will be coaching the Minor Midget MD team this year.
There will be some fun events planned this year including an outdoor tournament in Buffalo.
Tournaments and practices are already posted on the website so please check it out.
With tryouts starting next week I want to remind everyone to constantly check the schedule as it is changing with exhibition games being added and tryout ice changing into exhibition games.
I'm sure one of the questions on everyone's mind is........
What am I looking for in tryouts?
COACHABLE PLAYERS/TEAM PLAYERS
Players that are more concerned with the performance of the team than their own personal achievements. Players that will listen and try something new if they are asked to.
HEART!!!!!! I will take a player with heart over a lazy talented player every time. Put effort into practice and do not be a distraction. You can not practice with 60% effort and expect to be able to give me 100% in a game. If you go into the corner to get a puck do everything you can to come out with it. If someone takes the puck from you, don't watch them skate away with it, go get it back. If you are a forward "back check" if you are defense stay tight to the play(gap control) Make smart decisions and pass the puck. I am not interested in seeing someone try and go "coast to coast" you will never be able to do it in a game once the season starts so don't start now. Show me that you want on this team with effort, heart and teamwork. Do not cheat on a drill. I would rather see you come last in a drill than cheat and finish near the top.
